Tarangire National Park is known for its giant baobab trees and for the large elephant herds that gather along the Tarangire River from June to October. It is quieter than the Serengeti and sits only a few hours from Arusha, so it fits easily into a first safari.
Camps in and around the park range from secluded tented camps in the south to elevated treehouse-style rooms on the park boundary. Staying inside the park saves time on game drives, while private concessions allow walking and night drives.
The dry season from June to October is the best time for wildlife. In the green season, many animals disperse and some camps close, so check dates before booking.
