Ruaha
A rustic, good-value camp beside a seasonal river.
Ruaha is Tanzania's largest national park and one of its least crowded, a dry, rugged landscape of baobabs, rocky hills and a river that draws elephants, lions and kudu in the dry season. Camps are few and small, which keeps the sense of space.
Independent camps along the Great Ruaha River and its dry sand tributaries offer game drives, walking safaris and sometimes fly-camping. Several are owner-run, with experienced guides who spend most of the year on site.
Ruaha is reached by light aircraft from Dar es Salaam, Arusha or the southern parks. The dry season, from June to November, is the best time for game viewing.
