Mexico City

Mexico City is one of the largest cities in the world, but its best neighborhoods feel almost village-like, with tree-lined avenues, Art Deco apartment buildings and corner cafés. It has world-class museums, from the National Museum of Anthropology to the Frida Kahlo house, and one of the most exciting food scenes anywhere.
Roma and Condesa are the favorite bases for first-time visitors, full of restaurants, bars and parks. Polanco is polished and close to Chapultepec Park and the big museums, while the Centro Histórico puts you beside the Zócalo and the cathedral.
The city sits at about 7,350 feet, so take it easy at first. The dry season from November to May is the best time to visit. Use app-based taxis rather than hailing cars on the street.
