Tulum
A spiritual-minded retreat on the beach with tents, suites and a full program of yoga, sound baths and ceremonies.
Tulum grew from a sleepy fishing village into one of Mexico's most stylish beach destinations, known for its barefoot-luxury hotels, yoga, mezcal bars and restaurants cooking over wood fire. The Mayan ruins on the cliff above the sea and the cenotes in the surrounding jungle are among the most beautiful sights on the Caribbean coast.
The beach road, or Zona Hotelera, has the most atmospheric hotels, right on the sand, but it is more expensive and can be congested. The town is cheaper and more local, while Aldea Zamá between the two is quieter and newer.
The dry season from November to April is the best time to visit. Seaweed, or sargassum, can affect the beaches in spring and summer. Many beach hotels run on limited power and are cash-oriented, so check before you go.
