Sayulita is a former fishing village north of Puerto Vallarta that has become one of the Pacific coast's liveliest beach towns. Its streets are hung with papel picado, its central beach is popular with beginner surfers, and it has a relaxed bohemian character with good tacos, juice bars and boutiques.
Hotels in the center are close to the beach and nightlife. The hills on either side of town and the North End are quieter and have the best views, while nearby San Pancho is calmer still.
The season runs from November to April. Sayulita can be crowded on weekends and holidays. Puerto Vallarta airport is about forty-five minutes away.
