Tegucigalpa
A boutique hotel in the nearby colonial city of Comayagua, an easy day trip or overnight from the capital.
Tegucigalpa is Honduras's hillside capital, a sprawling city of colonial churches, a cathedral on the main plaza and busy markets. It has little in the way of polished tourism, and most visitors treat it as a transit stop on the way to Copán or the coast.
The more comfortable lodgings are in Colonia Palmira, east of downtown, where a handful of small inns offer family-style service and a quiet street. Business hotels cluster in the same area. The old downtown has many more run-down hostelries, so stay out of it.
The city's hotel selection is limited, so book ahead and ask the hotel to arrange the airport transfer. Check official travel advice, take taxis arranged by your hotel after dark and avoid walking at night. Nearby Valle de Ángeles is a pleasant day trip for crafts and cooler air.
