Cayos Cochinos
An all-inclusive dive resort with lodges on the hillside above Ensenada Cove and pickup from La Ceiba.
Cayos Cochinos, the Hog Islands, are two small islands and thirteen cays about 30 kilometers off the coast, protected as a marine reserve. The water is clear, the reef is healthy, and there are Garifuna fishing communities and a rare pink boa on one of the islands. Almost everything else is wild.
Very few places exist. Turtle Bay Eco-Resort is the main option, an all-inclusive dive resort with lodges on the hillside above Ensenada Cove and pickup from La Ceiba. Laru Beya, a community project in the East End, offers two simple cabins with solar power for travelers who want to meet the community.
Most visitors take a day trip by boat from La Ceiba or Roatán, so a stay on the cays is the exception. Sources disagree on how many rooms Turtle Bay has, so ask when booking. Bring cash and expect basic facilities. Calm seas are most likely from March to June.
