New Orleans
A quiet, antique-filled hotel in 1830s Creole townhouses in the lower French Quarter, with lush courtyards.
New Orleans feels unlike anywhere else in the country, shaped by French, Spanish, African and Caribbean influences. The French Quarter's iron balconies and courtyards, the jazz clubs of Frenchmen Street and the oak-lined avenues of the Garden District all lie within a short streetcar ride of each other.
The French Quarter is central but noisy around Bourbon Street; its quieter lower end and the neighboring Marigny suit most travelers better. The Warehouse District has galleries and restaurants, while the Garden District and Lower Garden District are greener and calmer.
The best months are February to May, with Mardi Gras and the Jazz & Heritage Festival drawing big crowds and higher prices. Summer is hot and humid, and the hurricane season runs from June to November.
