Martha's Vineyard
An antique-filled inn in Edgartown, spread across historic houses around an English-style garden.
Martha's Vineyard is a larger and more varied island than Nantucket, with six towns each with its own personality. Edgartown is elegant, with white captains' houses and a lighthouse; Oak Bluffs is famous for its colorful gingerbread cottages; and the up-island towns of Chilmark and Aquinnah are rural, with farms, stone walls and clay cliffs.
Edgartown and Oak Bluffs have the most restaurants and shops and are easy to reach from the ferries. Up-island inns are quieter and closer to the best beaches and farm stands.
The season runs from late May to early October, peaking in July and August. Ferries from Woods Hole carry cars, but a car is not essential: buses and bikes cover the island well.
