Skoura
From £166/ night
A farmhouse guesthouse in a lush garden, with a pool among the palms.
Skoura, east of Ouarzazate on the road to the Dades Valley, is a vast palm grove irrigated by channels from the Atlas, dotted with crumbling mud-brick kasbahs, including the 17th-century Amridil. It is a place for slowing down: walks or bike rides through the palms, visits to village markets and evenings by the pool after the heat of the day.
The oasis has a remarkable concentration of stylish small hotels, many in restored or newly built kasbahs within large walled gardens.
Skoura makes a peaceful stop on the route between Marrakech and the Sahara. Spring and autumn are best; nights can be cold in winter.
