Agafay Desert
A pioneering camp of white canvas tents furnished with vintage pieces, lit by lanterns at night.
Agafay is not a sand desert but a lunar plateau of bare, honey-colored hills southwest of Marrakech, with the snow-capped Atlas on the horizon. Its appeal is the silence and the starry skies so close to the city, and a growing number of tented camps and eco-lodges offer camel rides, quad biking, dinners under the stars and morning yoga.
The best camps are low-impact, with spacious canvas tents, private bathrooms and communal fire pits. Some have pools for the hot months.
Agafay is about 45 minutes from Marrakech, so a night here fits easily into a city stay. Nights are cold from November to March; bring warm layers.
