Sossusvlei
A semi-tented lodge with an exclusive gate into the Namib-Naukluft National Park.
Sossusvlei is the best-known corner of the Namib Desert, a sea of apricot-colored dunes that rise hundreds of meters above clay pans. Visitors climb dunes at dawn and photograph the dead camel-thorn trees of Deadvlei.
Lodges sit on private reserves at the edge of the park, with villas and semi-tented suites facing the dunes. Several have observatories, since this is an International Dark Sky Reserve.
Some lodges have exclusive gates into the national park, which means an earlier start than other visitors. Days are hot and nights cold, so pack for both.
