Boutique hotels in Mazunte

Mazunte is a small village on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca that once lived from hunting sea turtles and now protects them, with a national turtle center on the beach. Its relaxed atmosphere, yoga studios and sunset at the headland of Punta Cometa draw a bohemian crowd, and the neighboring beaches of San Agustinillo and Zipolite are just as laid-back.

Where to stay

Small hotels are spread along the beaches of Mazunte, Mermejita and San Agustinillo, often on the hillside with ocean views. Most are simple and eco-minded rather than luxurious.

Good to know

Mazunte is about an hour from Puerto Escondido and Huatulco airports. Cash is important, as card payments and ATMs are limited. The dry season from November to April has the best weather.
