Laikipia
A ranch house lodge offering horseback riding, walking and fishing in the river.
Laikipia is a patchwork of cattle ranches and community conservancies that together hold some of Kenya's richest wildlife, including black rhinos, Grevy's zebras, reticulated giraffes and wild dogs. With few visitors and no park rules, lodges offer walking, horseback and camel safaris, night drives and fly-camping, often with remarkable views of Mount Kenya.
The lodges are small and highly individual, many family-owned and closely tied to conservation and community projects.
Laikipia is reached by light aircraft from Nairobi or via the town of Nanyuki. It is drier and less seasonal than the Mara, so it works well all year.
