Diani is Kenya's best-known beach, stretching for around 10 miles along a reef-protected lagoon. Colobus monkeys swing through the coastal forest, kitesurfers ride the trade winds, and dhow trips go to the marine park at Kisite-Mpunguti for dolphins and snorkeling. Further south, Galu and Msambweni are quieter still.
Where to stay
The nicest options are small beach hotels and private villas rather than the larger resorts; the southern end of the beach and Msambweni are the most peaceful.

Ukunda airstrip has flights from Nairobi and the Mara. Seaweed can wash up from April to July; the best beach weather runs from December to March.
