Amboseli
A long-established camp among acacias with views of Kilimanjaro.
Amboseli National Park is famous for the view of Kilimanjaro rising above the plains and for its elephants, among the most studied in the world, including some of the last big tuskers. Springs from the mountain feed swamps that draw buffalo, hippos and flocks of birds, and the private concessions around the park allow walks and night drives with Maasai guides.
Camps sit both inside the park and in the surrounding conservancies, many with direct views of the mountain.
Kilimanjaro is often hidden in clouds during the day; early morning and late afternoon are your best chance. The park is about four hours' drive or an hour's flight from Nairobi.
