Casablanca
A 1930s Art Deco mansion turned Relais & Châteaux hotel with rooms named after writers and artists.
Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and its economic engine, more modern and less traditional than the imperial cities. Its highlights are the Hassan II Mosque, which stands partly over the ocean and is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims, the Art Deco and Moorish Revival buildings of the 1920s and 1930s, and the cafés and beach clubs of the Corniche.
Most hotels are business-oriented and large; the boutique choice is small. The city center and the Gauthier district are well placed for restaurants and architecture walks.
Casablanca has the country's main international airport, and many travelers spend just a night here before moving on by high-speed train.
