Asilah
A well-loved riad with a seasonal pool, a garden and a terrace, praised for its breakfasts.
Asilah sits on the Atlantic coast about 30 miles south of Tangier. Its small medina, enclosed by 15th-century Portuguese walls, is unusually clean and peaceful, with blue-and-white houses and murals painted during the international arts festival held each summer. Sunset from the ramparts is the town's daily ritual, and long beaches stretch to the south.
Asilah has a handful of guesthouses and riads in and around the medina, as well as country houses on the outskirts.
The town is busy with Moroccan families in July and August and very quiet in winter. The train from Tangier takes about 40 minutes.
