Tavanipupu Island Resort

Tavanipupu

A private-island resort in Marau Sound with about ten bungalows on a former coconut plantation, offering snorkeling and free diving.

Tavanipupu is a small private island in Marau Sound at the eastern tip of Guadalcanal, on the site of a former coconut plantation. It was a trading station called Crawford Island in 1896 and is now regarded as the most luxurious place to stay in the Solomon Islands. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stayed in 2012. Reefs, white sand and a sandbar island near it make up the setting.

Where to stay

Tavanipupu Island Resort has just ten bungalows on its 13 hectares, though a 2019 management statement said nine were in use with a goal of up to 15. There is no organized diving, but snorkeling and free diving are offered, and Sand Island is a popular outing for snorkeling or picnics. The resort has been owned by the Solomon Islands National Provident Fund since 2017.
