Fema Lodge

Tarawa

A bed-and-breakfast lodge rated 3.5 stars by Expedia and listed as a top hotel in Tarawa, about nine miles from Bonriki airport.

South Tarawa is the capital and by far the most populated atoll in Kiribati, a narrow causeway-linked strip about 30 kilometers long. It was the site of the Battle of Tarawa in November 1943, and relics of the fighting, including guns and bunkers, remain at Betio. The lagoon is a place for swimming and snorkeling off quieter sections, and sunsets are broad.

Where to stay

Fema Lodge is the hotel that appears in nearly every result, described by Expedia as a 3.5-star bed and breakfast with a choice of breakfast options and satellite TV, and listed as a top hotel by Hotels.com. It sits about nine miles from Bonriki airport. Other options are limited, with guesthouses and small hotels near the airport that we could not name from reliable sources.

Good to know

Luxury is not on offer, but comfortable stays exist. The island is crowded and busy, so check official travel advice, plan transport with your host and book accommodation in advance. Prices and availability should be checked on a booking site.
