Cascais · 33 rooms
A seafront design hotel built around a 19th-century mansion, with a saltwater pool on the rocks.
Cascais was a modest fishing village until Portugal's royal family began summering here in the 19th century. Today it is a polished but relaxed resort with sandy coves, a marina, a historic citadel and a seafront path that runs to Estoril. Just west, the wild beach of Guincho and the cliffs of Cabo da Roca mark the edge of Europe.
The town center and the waterfront are best for walking to restaurants and beaches. Hotels along the road toward Boca do Inferno and Guincho have more dramatic sea views.
Trains from Cais do Sodré in Lisbon reach Cascais in about 40 minutes, making it a good alternative base for exploring the capital and Sintra. The Atlantic stays cool even in summer.
