Prince Edward County
A vintage motel in Picton reinvented with pink-hued rooms and a social atmosphere.
Prince Edward County, about two and a half hours east of Toronto, is a rural island on Lake Ontario that has become one of Ontario's favorite getaways. Its limestone soils produce excellent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and its farm stands, cideries, art galleries and the long dunes of Sandbanks Provincial Park draw weekend visitors from across the province.
Picton is the county's main town, with restaurants and shops. Wellington and Bloomfield are pretty villages with some of the best small hotels and restaurants.
Summer and the autumn harvest are the best seasons. Weekends book up early, and many places close or reduce hours in winter. A car or bike is essential to explore the wineries.
