Tofino is a small town at the end of the road on Vancouver Island's west coast, surrounded by the beaches of Pacific Rim National Park and the islands of Clayoquot Sound, a UNESCO biosphere reserve. It is Canada's surfing capital, with whale watching, hot springs and hiking among giant cedars, and its winter storms have become an attraction in their own right.
Most of the best hotels sit on the beaches south of town, especially Chesterman Beach and Cox Bay. The town itself has restaurants and a harbor for boat trips.
Summer is the busiest season, while November to February is storm-watching season. Tofino is about four and a half hours from Victoria, or a short flight from Vancouver.
