Niagara-on-the-Lake
A Victorian landmark on the main street, with a classic tea room and antique-filled rooms.
Niagara-on-the-Lake sits where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario, a short drive from Niagara Falls but a world away from its crowds. Its tree-lined main street, historic houses and the Shaw Festival theater make it one of Ontario's prettiest towns, and the surrounding orchards and vineyards are the heart of Ontario wine country, famous for icewine.
The old town has historic inns within walking distance of the theaters and shops. Wineries along the Niagara Parkway and the Niagara Escarpment are an easy bike ride away.
The Shaw Festival runs from April to December. Summer and the autumn harvest are the best seasons, and the Icewine Festival is held in January. The town is about ninety minutes from Toronto.
