From $218/ night
An intimate 19th-century mansion in the city center with a stylish, eclectic interior and a garden.
Bordeaux's 18th-century center is one of the largest UNESCO-listed urban areas in the world, a harmonious sweep of limestone façades along a crescent of the Garonne River. Its riverfront has been revived with promenades and the Miroir d'Eau, and the city has a lively food and wine scene, anchored by the Cité du Vin museum.
The Golden Triangle and Saint-Pierre quarters are the most elegant and central. Beyond the city, the vineyards of the Médoc, Saint-Émilion and Pessac-Léognan have château hotels and wine estates.
Many famous châteaux open for tastings by appointment only, so plan ahead. Saint-Émilion is an easy day trip by train, and the Atlantic beaches and the Arcachon Bay are about an hour away.
