Cape Breton Island is famous for the Cabot Trail, a loop road that climbs through the highlands and follows the coast past cliffs, coves and fishing villages. Cape Breton Highlands National Park has some of the best coastal hiking in Canada, and the island's Scottish and Acadian heritage lives on in its fiddle music, ceilidhs and the Celtic Colours festival.
Inns and lodges are scattered along the Cabot Trail, with Baddeck, Ingonish and Inverness the main hubs. Inverness, on the west coast, is home to two celebrated golf courses.
The main season is from June to mid-October, with fall colors and the Celtic Colours festival in October. Whale watching is excellent in summer.
