Lelepa Island
An adults-only villa resort about three miles from Lelepa, on Efate's north coast.
Lelepa is a small, low island off the northwest coast of Efate, a short boat ride from the mainland. It has a small village, a limestone coast with caves and reef that is good for snorkeling, and a place in Vanuatu's history as the site of the legend of Roy Mata, the great chief buried on the neighboring island of Retoka. The Roy Mata Domain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Most visitors come on a day trip from Port Vila. We found no resort on Lelepa itself; the nearest stays are on Efate's north coast, such as The Havannah and a guesthouse with a private beach at Port-Havannah.
Boat trips, usually combined with a lunch on the beach, are the way to visit. Calm weather is more likely between May and October. Bring reef-safe sun protection and cash for village fees.
