Clarens, named for the Swiss town where President Paul Kruger died, sits at the foot of the Maluti Mountains. Its leafy village square is lined with galleries, craft breweries and cafés, and the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, with its towering honey-colored sandstone formations, is a short drive away. Hiking, fly-fishing, mountain biking and trips into Lesotho fill the days.
