Marsa Alam
A simple dive village on the Red Sea coast south of Marsa Alam.
Marsa Alam lies in the far south of Egypt's Red Sea coast, where reefs lie close to shore and quiet bays are visited by turtles, dugongs and dolphins. It is more rural than Hurghada or Sharm, and the desert meets the sea.
Aside from some large resorts, there are a few simple dive-camp style stays and eco-villages built for people who come for the reefs. They are basic but close to the water.
Marsa Alam has its own airport. Diving and snorkeling conditions are good almost year-round, with the best visibility in spring and autumn.
