Boutique hotels in Monaco
Monaco is a sunlit Riviera city-state of casino belle epoque, harbor yachts and a clifftop old town, with a few intimate hotels among the grand ones.
Monaco packs a palace, a casino, a Formula 1 circuit and one of the world's most glamorous harbors into barely two square kilometers. Most of its famous hotels are large, but there are a handful of smaller, character-filled ones, and everything is within walking distance, with lifts and escalators to tackle the hills.
Monte Carlo
The Casino Square, Hôtel de Paris and the Café de Paris are the heart of Monte Carlo, with a Belle Époque opera house by Charles Garnier next door. The area around the Carré d'Or is the center of luxury shopping.
La Condamine and the harbor
La Condamine wraps around Port Hercule, where superyachts moor beneath the Prince's Palace on the Rock. It is the most lively and local-feeling district, with a market and good restaurants.
Fontvieille and Larvotto
Fontvieille is a modern district on reclaimed land with a harbor and a rose garden. Larvotto is the beach quarter, where large resort hotels face the Mediterranean.
When to go
May and the Grand Prix, September and the yacht show are the busiest times. Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant weather, and Monaco is an easy day trip from Nice, 25 minutes away by train.
