Chuuk Lagoon, once called Truk, is a large lagoon ringed by a barrier reef, and the graveyard of a Japanese fleet sunk in Operation Hailstone in February 1944. More than 60 ships and aircraft lie in shallow, clear water, many still coated in coral and carrying their cargoes of trucks, tanks and bottles. It is one of the greatest wreck-diving sites in the world.
Blue Lagoon Dive Resort on the southern tip of Weno has 54 air-conditioned rooms, many with lagoon views, and Chuuk's largest dive facility, with rooms from US$165 in one guide; Wikivoyage calls it quiet and rustic.
