Cotswolds
A Palladian manor house above a hillside village, with a small spa and a restaurant that favors local produce.
The Cotswolds are a rolling limestone landscape of small market towns, thatched cottages and drystone walls. Their hotels are mostly converted manor houses, old inns and farmhouse retreats, often with a serious kitchen and a spa.
Broadway, Painswick and Winchcombe sit at the western edge, with views toward the escarpment. Further east, Burford, Woodstock and the villages around Chipping Norton are closer to Oxford and London.
A car makes the area far easier to explore, as bus services are limited. Weekends in summer fill up early, and many inns have a two-night minimum on Saturdays.
