Boutique hotels in Nauru

Nauru is the world's smallest island republic: a single raised coral island you can circle by road in under an hour, with two hotels and a bay for swimming.

4 boutique hotels handpicked

Nauru is a raised coral island of about 21 square kilometers in the central Pacific, the third-smallest country in the world and one of the least visited. A ring road around the coast takes about 30 minutes to drive, and a fringe of coastal land surrounds a barren interior left by a century of phosphate mining. The islanders are Micronesian and Polynesian in heritage, and the atmosphere is quiet, close-knit and unhurried.

What to see

The island has WWII Japanese guns and bunkers, a lagoon-like Buada Lagoon surrounded by green gardens, Moqua Caves and a few sandy beaches. Anibare Bay on the east coast is the best place to swim and watch the sea.

Where to stay

Accommodation is small and limited. The Menen Hotel is the largest, with a bar, restaurant, pool and tennis courts. The Od'n Aiwo Hotel is a cheaper and more modest alternative, and a couple of serviced apartments exist.

Good to know

Online booking is generally not possible, and reception may not reply to emails, so be patient and book well ahead. Flights are on Nauru Airlines, and schedules are limited. Check official travel advice before planning.

When to go

The weather is hot and humid year-round, with rain from November to February.
