Anibare Bay is on the east coast of Nauru and is the island's only real bay, a gently curving beach of coral sand and clear water that is a popular spot for swimming, sunset watching and a family's evening out. A narrow shelf of reef runs close to shore, and the coast road follows the bay's curve.

Where to stay

The Menen Hotel is generally described as the island's largest hotel, with a bar, restaurant, pool and tennis courts, and rooms that overlook Anibare Bay. Online booking is not possible and the reception may not reply to email, so plan to confirm by phone or through a contact on the island. Sources disagree on how far the hotel is from the airport, with one saying it is more distant from Yaren and another about a mile away.

Good to know

Swim carefully, as the reef edge and currents can be strong. The bay is quietest in the early morning. The hot, humid weather means shade and water are always welcome.
