Seyðisfjörður
Eight rooms in a black-clad 1907 kit house in the heart of the village.
Seyðisfjörður lies at the end of a steep fjord in the east, a village of brightly painted timber houses, a blue church with a rainbow path and an active artists' community. Waterfalls tumble down the mountainsides, and the ferry from Denmark docks here.
Hótel Aldan is the standout: individually designed rooms spread across three buildings in the center, including the old bank with antique furnishings. Við Lónið has eight rooms in a black-clad 1907 kit house. Guesthouses such as Post-Hostel and Nord Marina offer simpler rooms.
The road over Fjarðarheiði can close in winter storms; check conditions. The LungA arts festival fills the town in July. Walk the waterfall trail above the village, and look for puffins and reindeer in the surrounding hills.
