Ísafjörður (Westfjords)
A small boutique-style hotel near the town center, close to cafes and restaurants.
The Westfjords are Iceland's most remote region, a rugged peninsula of cliffs, empty beaches and arctic foxes. Ísafjörður, its main town, has a tidy center of old houses, a good music scene and the trails and boats that lead into Hornstrandir nature reserve.
Hotel Ísafjörður on Silfurtorg square has rooms looking over the inner harbor and the bay, plus a restaurant and bar. Hótel Horn is a small boutique property near the center. Guesthouses such as Gamla and Stekkaból offer simple, well-reviewed alternatives.
The drive from Reykjavík takes about five hours, though flights are quicker. Ferries to Hornstrandir run in summer only. The region is quiet and weather is changeable, so book accommodation ahead in July and August.
