Trinidad (Jesuit Missions)

A hotel near the Trinidad ruins listed on booking sites, a convenient alternative to staying in Encarnación.

The Jesuit mission of La Santísima Trinidad de Paraná was founded in 1706 and its church, bell tower and carved pulpit survive, as does the neighboring mission of Jesús de Tavarangüe, about 12 kilometers away. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and show how Guaraní and Spanish craftsmen combined European baroque with local carving.

Where to stay

There is no lodging inside the villages of Trinidad or Jesús, and travelers generally base themselves in Encarnación, 30 kilometers away on Route 6. The few listed hotels nearby include De la Trinidad Hotel and Awa Resort Hotel, though these are aggregator suggestions without a recent review, so check before booking. See Encarnación for boutique options.

Good to know

A taxi is the easiest way between the two sites, and an early morning visit avoids the midday heat. Allow half a day for both missions.
