Filadelfia · 40 rooms
A cooperative-owned, red-brick motel-style hotel opposite the museum and Plaza de los Recuerdos, with 38 rooms and two suites.
Filadelfia was founded in 1930 by Russian Mennonites who had fled the Soviet Union, and is the center of the Fernheim colony in the Paraguayan Chaco. It is a neat, wide-streeted town with a museum of the settlers' history, a farming cooperative and a tidy plaza. Mennonite and Indigenous communities live side by side.
Hotel Florida is the main option, owned by the Fernheim Cooperative and described as one of the best places to stay in the Chaco. It is a red-brick, motel-style property opposite the museum and Plaza de los Recuerdos, with 38 rooms and two suites that are utilitarian but have en-suite bathrooms and garden views. It is being expanded with 40 more rooms and a larger restaurant. A guesthouse called Posada del Cielo has colorful, individually decorated rooms, though we could not confirm its location.
Filadelfia is the base for visits to Chaco national parks. It is a long drive from Asunción, so many travelers fly or take an organized trip. Heat peaks from October to March.
