The Rugova Gorge climbs from Peja between sheer walls of limestone, with waterfalls, caves and a via ferrata route. At the top, the Accursed Mountains, known locally as Bjeshkët e Nemuna, open into high meadows and alpine lakes.

There are guesthouses and mountain huts in the valley and along the Via Dinarica trails, but few formal hotels, so most visitors base themselves in Peja. Late spring to early autumn is the hiking season.
