From £732/ night
A luxury vineyard retreat with spacious suites in Marananga and the well-regarded Appellation restaurant.
The Barossa Valley, an hour's drive from Adelaide, is one of the world's oldest Shiraz regions, with German-Australian towns such as Tanunda and Angaston and cellar doors on nearly every road. The accommodation is spread among the vines: modern lodges with restaurants, villas with views over the vineyard, and country houses with a few rooms.
Marananga and the western side of the valley have the grandest lodges; Tanunda is walkable for restaurants and tastings; Angaston is quieter and more rural.
Harvest (February to April) brings the most atmosphere, and the Barossa Vintage Festival is held in odd-numbered years. Spring and autumn are the best seasons; summers can be very hot.
